Massapequa School District is proud to announce that it has been selected to host Spring Games in the Long Island Region of Special Olympics New York for two years, beginning in May 2026. The highly anticipated Spring Games will bring together more than 400 athletes, 100 coaches, and thousands of spectators and volunteers for an unforgettable celebration of athleticism, inclusion and community spirit.
The district’s facilities will serve as the for venue the major competitions. In true Special Olympic fashion, the games will be a festive and inclusive community event, uniting students, families and neighbors in support of these incredible athletes.
“We are absolutely thrilled and honored to welcome the Special Olympics to Massapequa School District,” Dr. William Brennan, superintendent of Massapequa School District said. “Our commitment to inclusivity and empowerment is reflected in everything we do, from our strong Special Education programs to our student-led initiatives such as Best Buddies, Unified Sports and Challenger Athletics. This event is more than just a competition – it’s a celebration of strength, determination and community.”
Massapequa School District has long been a champion of inclusive education and community engagement as evidenced by its Profile of the Massapequa Learner and Leader initiative. The district’s Life Skills and Career and Community Connections classes, Best Buddies Program, Unified Sports and robust Challenger Athletics programs reflect its dedication to supporting students of all abilities.

The Spring Games will also offer numerous opportunities for community members to get involved, including volunteer roles, fundraising efforts and event sponsorships. Local businesses, organizations and families are invited to be part of this inspiring event.
