Recreation Programs

Summer Recreation Program

Registration for the all Programs will take place at the end of May, dates to be announced in April.  Programs are contingent upon the passing of the 2025 school district budget.

Programs are tentatively scheduled to start July 1 and end August 1 (closed for the July 4th holiday.)

Elementary Program: Held at each Elementary School | 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM

  • For students entering grades K-5 in September 2025

  • Program runs for five consecutive weeks

  • Lunch is from 12:00 PM -1:00 PM

    • Students staying for the lunch hour: Parents must provide lunch for their child

    • Students not staying for the lunch hour: Parents must pick the student up and sign them out.

  • Children are grouped by grade, boys and girls are separated for grouping purposes only

  • Activities are as follows: Outdoor/Indoor games, group activities, movies, sports, arts and crafts, etc.

  • Weekly newsletters will be distributed from each program with upcoming events

  • Trips are an additional fee, first come basis once permission slip and fees are received

    • Students not attending trips will continue with a normal camp day.

  • On the last day the program ends at 12:00 PM

  • Participants must be Massapequa School District 23 Residents

Teen Program: Held at the Ames Campus | 8:30 AM - 2:00 PM

  • Students entering grades 6-8 in September 2025

  • Program runs for five consecutive weeks

  • Students are NOT permitted to leave for lunch

    • You must provide your child with lunch

  • Activities include: game room, sports, indoor/ outdoor activities, arts and crafts center, etc.

  • A weekly newsletter will be distributed with upcoming events

  • Trips are an additional fee, first come basis once permission slip and fees are received

    • Students not attending trips will continue with a normal camp day. 

  • On the last day the program ends at 11:30AM

  • Participants must be Massapequa School District 23 Residents.

Summer Sport Camps

Various sport camps will be held for various age groups.  The schedule and cost of each camp will be announced at the end of April.  Participants must be Massapequa School District 23 Residents.

Under the Lights Basketball Program

Weekly Recreational Basketball for students entering Grades 4-7 (Monday - Thursday evenings, mid-June until the end of July, 45 minute time slots).  No experience needed.  Captains are responsible for forming a team and registering all players.  The Recreation Office will NOT place players on a team.

College Assistants, Leaders and Volunteers for Recreation Programs

The Recreation Office will hire College Assistants, Leaders and Volunteers for the Recreation Programs. 

  • Applications will be available on our website in March

  • Applicants must be residents of Massapequa, School District 23

  • College Assistant and Leader positions are a 5-week employment commitment
