The district's School-to-Career program provides students with the kind of work experience that will enable them to make better career decisions.

Work-based learning is an educational approach that uses the workplace to provide students with knowledge and skills that help them connect school experiences to real-life work activities.  It adds relevance to the curriculum by showing how classroom learning is applied to real world situations and exposing students to various career options. Many students complete school with inadequate academic skills and few real-world workplace skills, thus limiting their understanding of how they fit into the adult work world. Secondary level work-based learning experiences address this deficit by extending the classroom to include the whole community and giving students opportunities to apply academic and technical skills to actual work. Students connect classroom instruction with learning in the workplace, and the experience becomes a meaningful and engaging educational opportunity. The work-based learning experiences help prepare students for college and careers.

The Career Exploration Internship Program (CEIP) is designed to give high school students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a career field and apply skills learned in the classroom to a work-place setting. Students participate in internships on their own time, after school hours. These are non-paid work-based learning experiences.

The General Education Work Experience Program (GEWEP) allows students to earn school credit for working part-time at local businesses. The helps strengthen their workplace skills, gain confidence, network with local professionals, and build their resume. Students interested in earning school credit by enrolling in the General Education Work Experience Program should see visit the Career Explorations Office during the school day.

Training and career fairs, such as our Annual Massapequa High School Career Fair, offer students an opportunity to learn about potential careers while networking with organizations and connecting with other students.
