Three educators from the Massapequa School District were recognized for their extraordinary service to students and the community by SCOPE Education Services. Colleen Corrigan, Mary Gaynor and Matthew McCauley were honored at the 2025 Awards for Excellence Dinner at Villa Lombardi on March 24, along with fellow educators from across Long Island.
Ms. Corrigan, a teacher at Fairfield Elementary School, received the SCOPE Community Service award. She was nominated for her exceptional dedication in supporting English language learners and their families. Ms. Corrigan strives to create an inclusive environment and form meaningful relationships, and ensures parents are well-informed and involved. Her innovative and differentiated instructional strategies helps students thrive. She diligently schedules translators, provides essential school supplies and collaborates effectively with co-teachers.
An ENL teacher at Fairfield Elementary School, Ms. Gaynor was presented with the Teacher Service award. She demonstrates exceptional dedication and commitment to the success of her English language learners, working to building meaningful relationships while creating a safe and supportive environment. Ms. Gaynor collaborates seamlessly with co-teachers, advocates for her students and supports classroom teachers consistently. Her innovative teaching methods and genuine car make a lasting impact on students, families and colleagues.
Mr. McCauley, a guidance counselor at Massapequa High School, received with the Support Staff award. He was nominated because he goes above and beyond for his students, and helps them build resilience which empowers them to over challenges. Mr. McCauley proactively contacts parents to create a strong support network, ensuring students receive assistant both at school and at home. His dedication to helping students succeed both academically and personally is evidenced through offering guidance, resources and a compassionate ear.
A committee of administrators, teachers and staff reviewed all of the nominations and selected Ms. Corrigan, Ms. Gaynor and Mr. McCauley for the awards.
