Members of the Helping Hands Club visited the Island Harvest Healthy Harvest Farm in Brentwood.
This 2-acre farm helps to combat food insecurity across Long Island by providing access to fresh produce for more than 300,000 Long Islanders who struggle with hunger and poverty.
Twenty-five students from Ames attended the trip, where they planted different varieties of peppers and laid down compost for new plant beds. Students learned not only how a farm runs, but also about the growth cycle of plants and the best ways to protect them from elements of nature.
This great experience provided students with an opportunity to help neighbors in need, and students left feeling inspired about how they can continue to help others who need it most.
