Welcome to Birch Lane Elementary
Learning Lights the World
Birch Lane Elementary School is in a residential area, south of Merrick Road in Massapequa Park. It is home to over 700 general and special education students in grades K through 5. Our mascot is the “Birch Lane Beaver,” which represents hard work and innovation. Our administration, faculty, staff, students and parents work together to give all students the opportunity to meet their highest potential.
Our dedicated staff sets high expectations for teaching and learning. Lessons are designed around current, research based educational curriculum and incorporate technology, encourage problem solving, exploration and learning inside our classrooms. We also provide opportunities for students to engage in extracurricular activities. Faculty and staff collaborate to offer a variety of clubs to include experiences that further enhance our student’s music, art, math, science, social studies, and physical fitness skills.
In addition to our regular school programs, our strong partnership with the PTA has enabled us to provide our students with a wide range of learning experiences that enrich the curriculum. PTA sponsors a variety of activities and assembly programs for our students. They support the infusion of the arts into the curriculum through their Arts in Education and Reflections Programs. They also enhance our literacy program through programs like PARP and by hosting Book Fairs during the school year.
Since the school’s inception in 1955, the Birch Lane Community has prided itself on its ability to foster unity and community spirit. Because of this, many of our former students have chosen to return to the Birch Lane area to raise and educate their families. Pride in its accomplishments, in its community spirit and harmonious relationships between staff, parents, and community have long been the hallmark of the Birch Lane School.
